School Environmental Education Programmes

Our School Outreach Programme is the cornerstone of our initiative, designed to engage, educate, and empower children to become active participants in environmental conservation and sustainability. Through a holistic approach, we offer a range of activities and initiatives tailored to the unique needs and interests of each school. Since 2012, little hands has reached out to over 1450 schools across Uganda and the Global South including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi and Ethopia inspiring and mobilizing children to take action for conservation of the environment. Central to our School Outreach Programme are the Green Ambassadors. We identify, train, and mentor passionate and committed children who become champions for environmental stewardship in their schools, homes, and communities. With a growing network of over 1 million Green Ambassadors, we are building a powerful and influential movement of young change-makers dedicated to creating a sustainable future for Uganda. Our school outreach programme involves;

a. Awareness Sessions on Environmental Conservation

Our team of dedicated educators and environmental experts conduct interactive awareness sessions in schools, focusing on key environmental issues, conservation practices, and the importance of individual and collective action. Through engaging presentations, discussions, and hands-on activities, children gain a deeper understanding of their role as stewards of the environment.

b. Tree Planting Initiatives

Trees are vital to the health of our environment, playing a crucial role in combating climate change, promoting biodiversity, and enhancing ecosystem resilience. We organize tree planting events in schools, providing children with the opportunity to learn about tree species, planting techniques, and the benefits of trees to the environment and community. Currently we have planted over 872,000 trees in our tree planting campaign.

c. Kitchen Gardening Workshops

Promoting sustainable food production and healthy eating habits, we encourage school children to establish and maintain kitchen vegetable gardens in their homes through hands-on experience and ongoing support from Little Hands Go Green, these Green Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting the benefits of home gardening within their families and communities. Our Kitchen Gardens and Backyard Gardening program is a holistic approach to promoting health, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment through education and action.
