On Saturday, 18th April, over 7000 school children largely from the Greater Kampala Metropolitan area spreading as far as Mityana and Masaka thronged the KCCA City Hall Gardens to take a 2km solidarity Children’s Climate Change March as a symbol of their personal commitment to take care of their environment in their schools, homes and communities.
The function was organised by Uganda’s Little Hands Go Green with the generous support of partners like Hariss International, the makers of Riham, Psalms Foods Industries, Ministry of Environment – Climate Change Department, National Forestry Authority (NFA), and our host partner Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

We were graced by the Deputy Executive Director of KCCA, Director Gender of KCCA, Acting Executive Director of NFA, Hon. Emmanuel Biara representing Parliament & the Speaker, Comissioner Climate Change Department, Mr. Bob Natifu representing the Ministry of Environment, Head of the Little Hands Go Green Schools Network, Mr. Thomas Kitandwe and Miss Kobusingye Hamira heading the Environmental Civil societies.

It is the 5th year now that we have been holding this March at the KCCA city hall. In a special way, this year the Little Hands Go Green Children’s Climate Change March happened simultaneously in Kampala and Munich on the same day. They flagged us off and the KCCA Deputy ED flagged off the Germans too who were watching us live.
In his remarks, Mr. Joseph Masembe the Founder of Little Hands Go Green and the brain child of the cross-continent Children’s Climate March praised the resilience and passion of the young Green Ambassadors who have taken it upon themselves to change the narrative, add their Climate Action voices to the bigger global fight against climate change. “Taking the Lead in this signifies a revolutionary approach of putting children centre stage in the fight against climate change,” he added.

The Acting Comissioner, Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Water & Environment re-echoed the government’s commitment towards ensuring a Greener, Healthier Pearl of Africa where Environmental and Biodiversity conservation are top of the agenda.
